The “corrected” Landscape

There is constant want and need to create environment, accompanied by atmosphere, in order to replace the more dull and dehydrating. These easily combine and become a surrounding, deeply impacting factor on lost and potential creativity. There are spaces, possibly intangible, that are based on actual places, events and facts but exist only in my imagination. A number of factors contribute to the “corrected” landscapes I make. They include but are not limited to social and political climates, an infatuation with fictional narratives, general narcissistic behavior, personal aspects, greed and guttural glimpses of optimism. Cityscapes, contrived narratives and post-apocalyptic landscapes all contain repetitively corruptive yet longing elements. Fur ferociously growing over bone cartilage, buildings made of wiry and authoritative lines, and desolate settings are always accompanied by stimulating color, and structures that suggest change and overall lament for what preceded the outcome.

Through the use of painting, drawing and various printmaking techniques mixed with figurative, realistic and inexplicit stylization, I am attempting to represent the subject matter with clarity and pragmatism. At the same time, the use of counterfeit or feigned color places the scenarios in a genuinely fictitious space. Mylar allows me to utilize acrylic, ink and graphite in such a way that creates a sense of immediacy and proposal of interaction with the work. Those same materials are used on various watercolor papers to suggest an archival connection to the archaic and futuristic influence on the subject matter.
